I always listen to my parents. And I think you should also do the same, Mio,” said Alex with a stupid grin on his face.

Who even gave him permission to give me a nickname? It sounds so sickening, Hermione thought.

Bianca coughed loudly, catching everyone’s attention at the table. She rolled her eyes as she gazed at Alex, clearly showing her dislike for him.

Hermione sat to her left and sipped her champagne, deaf to all the rubbish Alex threw out to impress her parents. Carlo ate his steak in silence, and soon after finishing, he began sipping on his red wine. Hermione sat between her siblings, Bianca to her left and Carlo to her right. Her friends sat next to Carlo, while her parents sat next to Bianca. Alex sat opposite her.

Everyone enjoyed the delicious dinner, and the instrumental small concert created a calm atmosphere. Nedvar sat diagonally to Hermione, observing her every action.

Bianca noticed the eye contact shared between Hermione and Nedvar but kept quiet. She wanted to punch Alex on the nose to help drown out his annoying voice.

If you don’t shut your mouth, I’m going to stab this fork in your neck and watch you die while I enjoy my chocolate muffin,” Bianca snapped at him, pointing her fork angrily in his direction, already fed up with listening to him pretend to be a good son.

Mama Clair gasped loudly, glaring at the little girl who was eating her dessert as if she had just spoken about the weather. Papa Warner was in between them, shaking his head while hiding a smile from his wife, who apologized to Alex.

Alex sat there with wide eyes, staring at the little girl. Everyone at the table heard Bianca, but only Clair reacted; the others sat calmly, expecting Alex to open his mouth and then Bianca to stab him.

Hermione and Carlo smirked at Alex, enjoying their drinks. “It’s okay, Mama Clair. She’s just young, right, princess?” Bianca banged the table loudly, gaining the attention of nearby tables. She shot glares at Alex because she didn’t like being called a princess.

You should be happy that my parents are here.” Having said that, she pulled her chair back and walked toward the bar.

Alex sat there, shocked to see a little girl with this much anger. Hermione got up with her friends and followed Bianca. Alex gave a sheepish smile to Carlo, but Carlo returned it with a blank face.

Carlo turned his head to the side and caught Nedvar watching Alex with a blank expression and a tight hold on his wine glass. He saw Nedvar gulp the wine and then turn his attention toward his second-in-command, Rocco.

Rocco was talking about something while showing Nedvar something on his mobile. Carlo then turned his attention toward his parents and saw his dad convincing his mama to stay calm. He knew that his dad didn’t like Alex, simply because Alex was Mama's friend’s son, so he kept quiet.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Nedvar gulped the wine in one go and slammed the glass on the table. Rocco was busy doing something on his mobile. “Ned, I think you need to see this,” he whispered to Nedvar.

Nedvar tore his murderous gaze away from Alex to focus on what Rocco was showing him.

Rocco turned the screen toward Nedvar so he could see clearly.

Nedvar blinked twice after seeing the picture on the mobile screen. He snatched the phone from Rocco’s grip and read the message written under the picture.

The image featured Hermione, Bianca, and her friends, Aurora and Vittoria, laughing while each held an ice cream cone. The picture had been taken just a few seconds ago. He noticed several other photos of Vittoria passing ice cream to each of them.

Written beneath the pictures was:
Beautiful women attract danger.

Nedvar sprang from his chair, making everyone gulp and shake visibly. People didn’t want any bloodshed here because they valued breathing. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Alex talking to one of the guards, who wore grey, indicating that the guard worked for Allen.

He walked toward the bar to see the women chatting and laughing, completely oblivious to the danger. He scanned the area with his hawk-like eyes but found nothing suspicious. The instrumental concert had ended, and one woman spoke into the mic about a couple dancing, as the hotel was showcasing its best honeymoon suites.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Can I have a dance with your hulk of a bodyguard, Vee?” Aurora asked with her puppy-dog eyes. Hermione shrugged her shoulders lightly, not minding much because she knew Aurora had gone crazy after seeing Sam. Vittoria rolled her eyes at Aurora, while Bianca giggled softly. “I don’t care; it’s him who has to dance with you, Rory,” Hermione replied.

Aurora made her way toward Sam, who stood just a few feet away. The trio watched her attempt to capture Sam’s attention, but she faced his blank expression and cold voice. Aurora stomped her foot like a child, pouted angrily, and punched Sam’s arm.

Sam stood there looking at her as if she were a five-year-old kid. He blinked twice and turned his face forward, completely ignoring the great Aurora.

The trio burst into laughter, holding their stomachs. For the first time in her life, Aurora had been rejected by a guy. She was a girl no one could resist, and yet a mere guard ignored her as if she were a plague. Vittoria excused herself to go to the washroom, walking away and leaving the sisters alone.

Aurora’s face turned red with anger, which only made the sisters laugh harder. Nedvar watched the scene, his grey eyes fixated on his dame.

Rocco stood there with a frown on his face as he furiously typed something on his phone. He walked ahead but suddenly bumped into something—or rather, someone. He was about to shout in anger when an icy voice interrupted him.

Don’t you have eyes, you stupid asshole?” Vittoria glared at him, her expression mirroring Rocco’s scowl.

I don’t have eyes? Do you even know who you’re talking to?” Rocco spat angrily.

Of course, I know—the biggest moron in the world,” Vittoria replied nonchalantly as she walked past Rocco, who stood there with his mouth agape.

Rocco stared at her back, realizing she was Hermione’s friend. The shock was that she didn’t recognize the famous assassin. It was a significant blow to his ego.

I will get back to you soon, Vittoria Rossi, Rocco thought, smirking.

Everything is okay, Queen,” a soft voice interrupted as Hermione stared at her parents. “Oh, Jenny, yes, everything is fine. Did you have your dinner?” she asked gently, addressing her assistant, Jenny, who stood there in a white knee-length dress.

Yes, Queen,” Jenny replied.

Hermione walked toward her parents, who were speaking to Mr. Costo, one of the investors who had worked with Papa Warner.

As they approached, everyone turned to Hermione, who walked with elegance and confidence, her head held high. She stood next to her dad and Mr. Costo, nodding with a smile and shaking hands with him.

Warner, how is it to relax at home now that your daughter is earning and feeding the family?” he taunted bitterly, a smile on his face that belied the venom in his words. He laughed loudly, as if it were the biggest joke of the year.

Alex joined in, but when both men glanced to the side, they saw Hermione staring at them with a blank expression. Their laughter turned nervous. Hermione looked at Alex, then at Mr. Costo, smiling lightly, which made Mr. Costo laugh along with her.

Everyone watched her, unsure of what was going on in Hermione’s mind. “Mr. Costo, remember we have a meeting tomorrow,” she said with a smile that made him feel good to see the Devil Queen being sweet to him.

If only he knew what awaited him...

Oh yes, sweetheart,” he replied, dripping with false sweetness, which made her want to hurl her dinner at his face.

Jenny!” she called out, and the assistant stepped closer.

Cancel the upcoming meetings with Mr. Costo, and ensure our company has no contact with any of his businesses,” she instructed with finality in her voice.

Noted, Queen,” Jenny replied firmly before walking away.

What do you mean by that? How can you do this?” he asked, shocked by her decision.

You helped my father once, so I’m leaving you without any harm. Consider that my generosity,” she said, stepping a little closer to him. “Next time you pull this stunt, I will make sure you’re collecting your teeth from the floor,” she warned in a low voice.

Mr. Costo walked away, humiliated and embarrassed.

Alex stared at her with a nervous smile, but her glare made him excuse himself and walk away from the Allen's sight. “Come on, Papa, don’t be a bore; go dance with Mama,” she said, trying to lighten the mood as she noticed her mother was very close to breaking Mr. Costo’s teeth.

She watched her parents walk to the dance floor, smiling at them and praying to God to keep them close and deepen their love. She wished she had someone like that by her side.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

And she said I’m the biggest moron? How dare that woman?!” Rocco exclaimed as he recounted the incident of bumping into Vittoria.

Finally, a woman is right about a moron,” Nedvar mocked, chuckling at Rocco, which only frustrated him more. “I told a whole elaborate story, and that’s all you caught?” he dramatically exclaimed, waving his hands in the air to emphasize his disbelief.

Did you inform Dante to find the number and its details?” Nedvar asked. Rocco just nodded.

He will inform us soon,” Rocco replied.

Nedvar watched his dame dancing with Carlo. He saw her throw her head back, laughing at something her brother had said. Meanwhile, her parents were lost in their own world. Soon, Hermione and Clair switched partners; Hermione was now dancing with Papa Warner, while Carlo danced with Mama Clair.

In a few turns, Alex joined Clair on the dance floor, and Carlo held his baby sister, Sofia, in his embrace.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Hermione groaned when she felt the sunlight streaming directly onto her face. She turned to her right and found her little sister, Sofia, sleeping soundly. Hermione cuddled Sofia, who hugged her tightly in her sleep. She kissed her sister on the forehead and got up a few minutes later.

Hermione pulled the curtains to block the sunlight from disturbing Sofia’s sleep.

She headed to the bathroom and took a quick shower. She hated the after-party effects; her body felt lazy, and all she wanted to do was lie in bed and sleep the whole day. But it was already 11, and she had a meeting with the new investors after lunch.

She put on a blue oversized hoodie and white leggings, letting her hair fall down while it was still wet. As she made her way downstairs, she noticed no one in the living room. Thinking they might be in the kitchen, she walked inside and saw the maids cleaning.

Good morning, Queen. Mr. and Mrs. Allen are in the garden.” one of the maids said.

Good morning,” Hermione greeted back, thanking her.

She walked outside to see her parents enjoying the view of the green garden in silence while sipping their morning coffee. She kissed her dad’s cheek. “Lazy morning, Papa,

Then she hopped over to her mother, who stood up to serve her mango juice. Hermione back-hugged her mother, kissing her cheek. “Sleepy morning, Mama.” Clair patted her head and handed her the glass. Hermione smiled at her mother and drank her juice.

The other kids are still sleeping. You should have slept a little longer, sweetie,” Clair said to her elder daughter.

Mama, I have a meeting with the new investors after lunch. I have to leave soon to prepare everything,” Hermione informed her.

Mama Clair nodded because she knew that if everything was settled, Hermione would return home. Then she would set her up with Alex, and soon she would be a grandmother.

No matter how much you want to escape the blind date, you can try, my dear daughter. I am your mother, and I know how to convince you, Clair thought as she finished her coffee.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Is Hermione in danger?” Mama Arne asked her son as they had their lunch. “Dante and Rocco should learn to keep their mouths shut,” he said, glaring at the two men, who stuffed their mouths with food and avoided meeting Nedvar’s gaze.

Oh, come on, Ned. It’s good to know if there’s a threat; it can be helpful,” Aldo said, trying to make a point. Ethan watched his dada with curiosity in his eyes, eager to learn more about her.

I just think there’s a mole among the guards who want to hurt Hermione,” Nedvar replied. He brought a piece of meat to Ethan and fed him slowly with love. Ethan got distracted by his dada’s attention and ate whatever Nedvar offered him.

Don’t worry; I will try my best to track down the source,” Dante said. Nedvar nodded with pride in his eyes.

Let’s go to the beach after your afternoon nap, okay, baby?” Nedvar asked.

Yeah, Dada! I want to play in the water!” Ethan exclaimed, jumping enthusiastically and clapping his hands, which brought smiles to everyone’s faces.

Everything will be fine. Don’t worry, my son,” Mama Arne said to Nedvar.
